Surprising Home Remedy for
Toenail Fungus Beer!

A surprising home remedy for toenail fungus is beer. That's right beer! Now, I am not suggesting that you drink your way to being fungi-free.

I'm talking about using beer as a topical treatment and homemade foot soak to get rid of nail and foot fungus. Sound interesting? You bet it does! Keep reading to learn more about this fascinating treatment.

How Does It Work?

When I first heard about the acidophilus beer treatment, I thought it sounded too good to be true. But, after reading online anecdotal reports on how wonderful a treatment it is I wanted to check it out for myself.

Beer for Toenail Fungus? It appears that you're not just using beer to soak your toes. Other ingredients like vinegar and acidophilus are added to the mixture to create a potent anti-fungal brew.

The beer is used to simply soften the skin around the nail to help the active ingredients vinegar and acidophilus to get to work. Vinegar is acidic and kills bacteria, viruses, and fungi. Acidophilus adds “good” bacteria to help destroy toenail fungus.

What Is Acidophilus?

Acidophilus are bacteria that are beneficial to the human digestive system. There are many types of acidophilus bacteria available. Most people are aware that yogurt contains live cultures. But, other foods like kefir, sauerkraut, and the Korean favorite kimchi use acidophilus to create unique flavors.

When selecting an acidophilus product from your local health food store, get one has been refridgerated. Acidophilus is best stored in the refrigerator as the bacteria can lose potency if it is kept in warm environment.

Beer Homemade Foot Soak Recipe

So, let's get started gathering the ingredients you'll need for the recipe.

  1. Any dark beer (33oz)
  2. Vinegar (preferable white) (33oz)
  3. Acidophilus powder (at least 100 billion active bacteria)
  4. Tub to soak feet

Be forewarned. As you could imagine, this solution is pretty harsh smelling! Mix all ingredients together in tub or basin. Please note that it may take a few teaspoons of the acidophilus powder to equal about 100 billion live bacteria.

Put your feet in the mixture. Soak your feet for about 15 to 30 minutes once or twice a day. This solution may cause tingling and stinging if there are cracks in your feet from athlete's foot or dry skin.

Practice good foot hygiene in between uses. Keep your feet dry and clean. Remember to wear fresh laundered soaks and change them daily. Clip and file your toenails on a weekly basis. This last step is important as your infected nails grow out and are replaced with healthy nails. Be patient. It takes a long time ( 6 months to a year) for clear nails to grow.

The Verdict...

The pros of this remedy are that it's relatively non-toxic and it's cheap! It's much less potentially harmful than oral medications like terbinafine. The cons are that it smells pretty bad and it may or may not be effective for you.

If it doesn't work, then you haven't spent much money. Overall, I think that the acidophilus beer home remedy for toenail fungus is worth a try.
